Apartment associations, factories, shops, schools and some homes in Coimbatore hire security guards to control entry, watch the premises at night and handle visitors. A good security agency gives you trained, verified guards who turn up every shift; a poor one sends whoever is free. This guide explains what to check before you hire a security guard agency in Kovai.
Write down your requirements first:
A clear list helps agencies quote on the same basis.
Under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 (PSARA), a private security agency needs a licence from the Controlling Authority of the state where it provides guards. Ask for:
If in doubt, check with the state Controlling Authority. Rules and procedures change, so confirm the current requirements.
Ask the agency:
For sites with children or elderly residents, verification matters even more. Our guide to day care centres covers related safety checks.
Hostels need the same care at the gate; see our PG and hostel checklist.
Guards take leave and fall sick. Ask:
Frequent gaps in cover are the most common complaint about security agencies.
A guard's wages and benefits are the agency's responsibility, but you should ask about them, because under-paid guards leave quickly and poor compliance can become a problem for the client too. Ask:
For legal responsibilities as a principal employer, consult your lawyer or auditor.
Check what the agency provides: uniform, ID card, torch, whistle, baton, raincoat, and a phone for the guard. For night posts, make sure the guard has a sheltered place with light, drinking water and access to a toilet.
Guards and cameras work best together. If you have CCTV, decide who monitors it and who can access recordings. Our CCTV installation guide explains what to check on the camera side.
Get a written contract that states:
Start with a trial period where possible.
List your requirements, get quotes from two or three licensed agencies on the same basis, check verification, relievers and compliance, and sign a clear contract. You can find security agencies in the Kovai Yellow Pages directory.
Under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 (PSARA), a private security agency needs a licence from the Controlling Authority of the state where it operates. Ask the agency for a copy of its licence, note the validity date, and check it with the state's Controlling Authority if in doubt.
An agency supplies trained guards, sends a reliever when a guard is on leave and handles wages and statutory compliance. Hiring directly may cost less, but you become the employer and must arrange verification, leave cover and records yourself.
The number of guards and shifts, duty hours, reliever arrangements, the duties at your site, uniforms and equipment, the monthly charge and what it includes, compliance responsibilities, liability for losses, the notice period and how complaints are handled.
Ask the agency for each guard's ID proof, address proof and the record of police or character verification, and ask what training they have had. Keep copies on file and ask to be told before a guard is changed.
