Mosquito nets on windows and doors let you keep windows open for Coimbatore's breeze while keeping insects out. There are several types, and the right one depends on your window, how often you open it and your budget. This guide explains the options and what to check when getting mosquito mesh installed in Kovai. It does not rank brands or list prices, and it makes no health claims; for questions about mosquito-borne illness, follow official public health advice and consult a doctor.
An aluminium or uPVC frame with mesh, screwed onto the window frame. Simple, sturdy and low-maintenance. Good for windows you do not need to reach through.
A framed mesh on hinges that opens like a shutter. Useful when you need to reach the window or grill for cleaning.
A mesh shutter that runs in the same or an extra track of a sliding window. Common with aluminium and uPVC sliding windows. If you are also replacing windows, read our glass and aluminium work buying guide.
A folded (pleated) mesh that slides sideways on a track and folds away when not needed. Popular for balcony doors and wide openings. Check the quality of the track and cords; they take daily use.
A mesh that rolls up into a cassette at the top or side. Neat when open, but the spring and cassette need care.
A mesh fixed to the frame with magnetic strips or velcro. Low cost, easy to remove and wash, and often DIY. Less durable than framed options and may not seal perfectly.
Ask for a sample, check how tight the weave is, and ask how the mesh is fixed to the frame (rubber beading, clips or glue).
Accurate measurement matters more than anything else. A gap of a few millimetres is enough for insects to get in.
Ask for a written quote that lists:
Compare two or three quotes on the same specification.
Decide which windows and doors need nets, pick a type that suits how you use each opening, choose the mesh material, get every window measured, and take a written quote with warranty. For electrical changes near windows, such as moving a switch, use a licensed electrician. You can find mosquito net installers in the Kovai Yellow Pages directory.
It depends on the window. Fixed frames suit windows you rarely open from outside, sliding mesh suits sliding windows, pleated nets suit doors and large openings, and magnetic or velcro nets are a low-cost removable option. Ask the installer to see your window before recommending one.
Fibreglass mesh is common and does not rust. Stainless steel mesh is stronger and suits areas where pets or children may push against it. Polyester mesh is often used in pleated nets. Ask for a sample and check the weave.
Magnetic and velcro nets can be fixed with adhesive strips. They are cheaper and easy to remove but less durable. Framed, sliding and pleated nets usually need screws.
Dust builds up quickly in Coimbatore's dry months. Brush or vacuum the mesh every few weeks and wash it gently with mild soap when needed, following the installer's advice.
